181 characters · 10 chapters · one road

You don’t learn a character by recognising it. You learn it by writing it.

InkBound teaches 181 Chinese characters stroke by stroke, and turns what you remember into a village you can walk through.

Thirty seconds. How many can you read?

Why we made this

Almost every app teaching Chinese asks you to recognise a character from four options. You can pass that for months and still be unable to write a single one on paper.

Recognition and recall are not the same skill. Writing is the one that makes a character yours — the hand learns an order the eye never has to.

So we built the thing we wanted: a 米 grid, one stroke at a time, and a village that grows out of what you can actually write.

How it works

Three things happen, in this order, from the first character you write.

Ten gods stand along the road

Each chapter ends with one of them. They ask what you can write, they bow, and they press a seal. Nothing is defeated — the road is a series of examinations passed.

What you remember becomes a place

Every character you write cleanly puts up a house, and the character IS the house. The ink darkens the moment you practise and softens while you are away.

Arrival

Then there is 年

One hundred and eighty characters, ten seals, and one more waiting at the end of the road.

Try it now — write 一

One stroke, left to right. This is the real grid from the real game, not a picture of it.

What you get

You write every stroke

No multiple choice hiding a blank memory. You draw the character on a 米 grid and it tells you which stroke came next — never that you were at fault.

Your memory becomes a place

Every character you write cleanly becomes a building, and the character IS the building. The ink fades as you forget it and darkens the moment you practise. Your village is your progress, in one look.

Every character has an origin

Where the character came from, told honestly — marked 真 when the ancient form really shows it, 记 when it is a memory hook we invented to help you.

Ten gods stand on the road

Each chapter ends with a god who tests what you can write. They bow, and they press a seal. Nothing dies, and nothing you write is ever held against you.
